Its not enough to cause any issues like less than 14 inch but the last mattress we used in our crib had no gap at all

I used the same mattress for two kids and then it was handed down to the third it was showing signs of wear and needed to be replaced

However if you have a white or light colored sheet the pattern may show through

The floral print is very prominent so just be aware if youre using light colored sheets you might be able to see through them
