Some people complain about being too tight but the batteries can be removed without any trouble by using a small screwdriver. Removal is easy if you use 1 or 2 aa batteries as you can use the void of the 3rd battery to push the other batteries out.
These are a great way to get more amperage when using rechargeable aa batteries. Lets me use aa's in many of my d cell gear. And yes, non-rechargeable aa's work just as well in these too.
Works flawlessly. Works as intended. Works for me. I am very pleased with it.
For the ones that may not know, the reason for this is the milliamp hour rating of the individual cells. Therefor the advantage of using multiple cells in the adapter versus just one.
Cons
Three aa cells working as one d cell is great, but no diodes are integrated is a design flaw. There are no instructions included which would advise the customer what to do and what not to do.

The adapters are very sturdy and appear they will hold up for a long time.
Good mechanical fit in lanterns and flashlights.
So it will all get very hot and may destroy the plastics, the batteries and even the gadget you put it all into.
Installed in old 4 d cell maglight with led conversion and noticed no difference from 4 d cell alkaline.
Price
They save money with reuse of my many batteries sizes.
The only real reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the price is a little high for what you're getting, material/engineering-wise.
Much cheaper than d battery's and paid for them self in just a weekend.
A little expensive but i think it worth it.

3aa to d works better than 1aa to d because it meets the voltage and current requirement.
I'm sure runtime would be different but i didn't see the point in running some d batteries dead to compare.

It is very snug and does require a small screwdriver to pop out one cell allowing other two to be pushed out

The 3 rating for material quality is given hesitantly as only time will tell and the thinness of the plastic material is likely due to the necessity to fit 3 aa batteries in the space for a d cell
