I’m going to combine reviews for eccentric orbits and durrell hillis’ creating iridium since both books came out within a few months of each other and cover much of the same territory

Eccentric orbits begins with the notsosuccessful reception of the system by the cellphone using public it covers the creation story much more broadly and briefly and mostly illuminates the heroic efforts to save iridium from destruction including yet more much more international intrigue

Management redirected us from iridium to some newfangled cellular technology called aspira which led nowhere but kept us busy for a few months until i finagled a transfer from chandler to the motorola’s government group in scottsdale

I don’t know why thenmotorola ceo chris galvin even rates a mention in creating iridium given that the only role he played was in the near demise of iridium – according to eccentric orbits he spent months practically begging the government for permission to burn up the satellites and kill the whole thing
