Pros

New preset scenes and updates come out regularly. When you turn on a scene, its widget turns into an off widget, so you kind of know what top do to turn it off. This is honestly an upgrade on how i have my lights on for my pup.

They work seamlessly with both google home and apple homekit. Of all the smart products i've tried, philips is one that works the most reliably. The app is intuitive and easy to use.

The last purchase is for my godson. The price premium is very worth it, imo. Pretty pricey though. My only gripe is how insanely expensive they are.

The philips hue bridge connects to your home wi-fi network. You just need to have the hub plugged into the wall and an ethernet cable to your router. The documentation says connect to a wifi router.

Cons

Frustrating to set up - many hiccups in connecting to the hub ('unable to connect' errors) the whole setup is fragile. This needs to be entered manually to be located.

Smart bulb that requires you to pull out your phone, open an app, wait for it to connect, and then tap to turn on/off. That lasts only until you realize that all the convenient automated controls rarely work the way they are supposed to. Can't be used... Read More

Overall, i'm very impressed with the philips hue white and color ambiance starter kit.

With that out of the way, i opted to review these and use them to supplement my current setup.

Competitiveness

The “60w” equivalent lights are 800 lumens, but they don’t seem as bright as other 800 lumen bulbs i have.

Most other zigbee platforms (smartthings, hubitat, etc) use zcl instead of zll, and can have zigbee mesh issues as a result.
