Pros & Cons
Pros
There's no subwoofer so there's no huge base but that's fine by me. The adjustable bass and treble are really helpful to tune to your liking. The green light one sounds better to me, provided you use the bass knob in the back to turn the bass down 3 o... Read More
I got these as room monitors from my drum set. I have a mixer that blends miked audio from the drums with an music source.
These are built for desktop use. They are vastly better than $50 desktop speakers for studio use lol. The pair is weighty - heavier than i had expected for a pair of desktop/computer speakers.
The detail and fullness of sound for this package is really impressive. They have a wide and deep soundstage. The sound is better than my cancelling sony headphones.
Headphone jack in the front, rca to 3. Jack is adequate. No hum despite being routed near power cables. They have the usual 1/8 stereo jacks on the front for aux input.
Cons
The bass is virtually non-existent. The sound of the tweeter kind of cracks and not clear. I realize that might be a bit harsh.

These are super convenient to set up - still more work and cables than a usb soundbar, but well worth the upgrade, and notably ... Read More
Unfortunately, the green light has already started acting up and stopped working in less than a weeks use.
This may be in part due to my room sound but there's an annoying bump in the low-mid frequency range, and not quite enough low ... Read More
Price
For the price, i think they are an excellent value.
They do a respectable job with the bass frequencies for the price and convenience.
I'd spend the $30 extra for the edifiers; unless pronounced highs are super important to you (especially for rock & jazz).
Overall these are still quite nice for regular use at such a low price, just be aware that of the small issues they do have.
Competitiveness
That said, of course these won't cover the same frequency spectrum as a subwoofer or headphones.
From my reading, the mr4 would likely serve the purpose better on a desk setup than other speakers in the price range, includin... Read More
If the mr4’s weren’t around as an option, i might have compared with the mackie cr3’s again.
