I was a little leery of these after buying several offbrand sr04 sensors from another vendor a few years ago
That was very misleading because i have what appear to be identical sensors from other vendors that work fine at 3

You can measure distance in software by starting a counter and triggering the sensor then stopping count with an interrupt triggered by the return pulse

The response time is pretty linear from a few mm to over a meter

Complete project description follows but the keys for the ultrasonic distance sensor 1 its been running in a plastic box outside for almost a month with no problem
