Initially i thought i would do with a couple of dongle adapters to connect my monitors but soon enough i realized that every time i unplug them i have to restart the macbook to make it work afterwards the monitors just wouldnt come up if you plug the cables back in

Due to the macbook pro only having two ports it can be a bit of a choice at times as to what gets connected and i was hoping the dock would solve this

Before i start i should point out that there are two docks on the same amazon product page – the earlier elgato thunderbolt 2 dock launched in 2014 and this later elgato thunderbolt 3 dock which was launched earlier this year 2017 – reviews for both docks are grouped together so read the ones for the dock you are considering buying as most reviews are currently for the earlier model

The dock itself is simply styled with an aluminium chassis which matches my macbook pro nicely but would also look good coupled with a microsoft surface book or a similar modern windows 10 notebook

After speaking to elgato support they confirmed theres no way around this and they made the decision so customers could charge their phones even when no computer was connected
