The max-17 drives my new dell gaming monitor model s2721dgf at 144hz via straight hdmi, sharp as can be---no blurriness.
Via usb c-to-dp, it reaches 165hz---but blurry.
2• while the fan can get loud, it's a rather pleasing white noise, like wind through trees or constant ocean waves.

My great compaint is failure to get a nonblurry connection to any external monitor via displayport dvi or vga input via any hybrid dongle or cable from the units usb c or its hdmi output

My old dell u2412m monitor performed better at its dp dvi and vgi inputs when driven by older computers with minidp or vga outputs and hybrid cables than it did with the max17

Straight usb c connections worked well for a couple of 4k monitors that i tried and returned for unrelated reasons couldnt tolerate low refresh rates
