Have you forgotten what it was like in 1945, shirer asks the reader. The * and * barbarians were finally destroyed and the terrible carnage ended.
Cons
This is completely inaccurate. While berlin diary was a wonderful memoir about a journalist being plunged into the chaos of wwii, end of a berlin diary is the self-absorbed nattering of a passionate but uninformed liberal.

Throughout the book he is pessimistic about the fate of germany because many germans he talked to were not sorry about hitlers destruction of europe but were only sorry that he didnt win

He also paints a less than cheerful picture of the american occupation of germany and their willingness to tolerate nazis in german society they had already moved on to a new enemy the soviet union
