The rim protects the front face speaker. It also acts as a “speaker protector’ — as advertised — by nestling the opening lower between the phone case and the protector's rim. Why other protectors haven't utilized this design is beyond me.

I always add a screen protector to my new phones when they arrive and this 16 pro protector will be added soon.
I never have my phone without a screen protector and the new one i just got (but haven't received yet) is no exception.
With that said, i ordered this ahead of time so i could have it ready when the phone arrives.
