Ideal size for backpackers, hikers, day campers, etc. The hatchet itself is great quality. It's very well made and makes short work of light duty firewood preperation.

Took about 30min using a cloth and rubbing alcohol. Came much sharper than expected so haven't even felt the need to sharpen it. Definitely recommend getting a 150-300 grit sharpening stone.

While a little heavy for backpacking, it is a very dependable tool. The contour of the handle is very comfortable, and the weight is distributed evenly. The leather ring handle looks amazing and very durable.

The sportsman axe is only available in 12. I completely understand it is a hatchet and its going to get dinged scratched etc during first use. The hatchet honestly looks like a 12 year old's first time restoration project.
