Pros & Cons
Pros
Blade takes a while to sharpen, but once it is sharpened it is perfect. It splits pretty well, and works well as a hammer. Overall is a very nice axe thus far, it's a very sturdy make.
The handle looks and feels great now, and it should be waterproof and not dry out over time. The handle is not slippery nor looks unappealing with the finish. My only complaint is that the stickers were adhered directly to the beautiful handle.
There are 2 minor imperfections that dont affect the performance or structure of the axe at all to the best of my knowledge. On the other hand, the sheath is pretty decent. It also has a great grip to it.
Took a couple of hours sanding (going with the grain of the leather), and then applied neatsfoot oil to the leather. The leather is nice and dark, and moist with the oil. The little blemishes are very easy to get over and if it's a bother it's nothing... Read More
Love this hatchet. Used the hatchet to make short work of smaller limbs, cutting them into 1 foot or so lengths to use in my solo stove bonfire. Leather disks in the handle vary greatly, as do the two rivets in the * of the grip.
Cons
Black powder coat is of the cheapest possible quality, and is applied very poor. The hatchet itself is fairly nice, except for half-done hammer head bevel. Several imperfections and abrasions on the leather.
Highlights
Quality
I’ve had this product for about a week now and the black finish has stayed on it has kept its edge and is well made
Estwing has been providing quality products for decades.
The handle is lacquered which makes it hard and slippery, and the black painted steel just didn’t look right against the bright handle.
The handle is also more grippable now and not smooth/slippery with wet hands as it could have been with the lacquer.
Price
Overall, this is a great hatchet, and very inexpensive too!
Great quality-& not so expensive that you’re afraid to use, gransforsbruk products cost a lot!
Shipping
It was delivered with base of handle chipped off.
No problems with shipping or the product itself when it arrived.
Packaging/appearance
The stickers were annoying to get off, but now that they are off it looks amazing.
Purchased this to give as a present, ordered the black special edition.
