This product is an extension cord reel that has 35ft of extension cord cable inside of the reel that you can pull down and have it traveling up to 35 feet and when you are done using the extension cord it will simply just retract back into its home base circular reel

There is a caution sign that says this product is for general use cord reel only indoor dry location use only caution use only in dry locations so i guess this is not meant to be stored outside or in the rain or wet damp areas

I ordered this etl listed cable matters 35 ft 3outlet retractable extension cord reel for that reason

The 35 feet comes from the 5 ft cord to plug it into an outlet plus the 30 feet of 3 wire extension cord that you pull out

It works like a shade in that to retract it you tug on it and it reels back into the case
