Pros & Cons
Pros
The twists in this novel are unexpected and made my jaw drop. It's not a unique plot by any means, but it was pretty action packed, suspenseful and steadily paced. The author did a fantastic job of grabbing you in right from the start with the charact... Read More
The disappearance of nine year old avery is the spark that burns this neighborhood to the ground. Avery is only nine, yet the way she thinks, she's much older.
Shari lapena is a genius at weaving mystery/thrillers. This is my first time reading anything written by sheri lapena, but it won't be the last.
The oft-overused word unputdownable certainly applies here. An entertaining read. I'd recommend listening over reading, if you can, because january is one of the best.
This creepy & twisty thriller is a definite favorite. The ending is a shocker. I know some felt a little leery on the book's ending, but for some reason, the ending works.
Cons
It’s just not believable that a 9yr old child could be so introspective and evil. Once the “perpetrator “ has been revealed, there's a lot of filler before getting to the conclusion. Homeless shelters are not flop houses.
Highlights
Quality
Keeps your attention from the first page and keeps your mentally pondering who could've done it.
I tore through this book and finished it no time.
Parents, a bit dim & weak, will make you furious but just enough twists & turns to redeem this story.
The pages turn rapidly; it’s a quick read.
