Pros

It takes longer to dehydrate, but not dried like the nesco. Convenient timer lets you walk away and not run the risk of over-dehydration. Three loads of three liners equals the nine total liners.

The unit is fairly quiet - not disruptive to tv viewing in the same area. Motor is louder than i expected it to be though. Adjusting trays pulling them forward slightly and resting the door upon the trays usually helps to quiet the machine.

It holds so much and dries the food to perfection. It is a monstrosity so be sure you have room for it. The one thing i would change is to add a little more space between the shelves because for some things i have to leave out every other shelf.

Cons

This is the most overpriced, cheapest built pos i have ever purchased. Noisy and over-priced for the quality. It's second problem is that it's ridiculously priced to be so cheaply put together.

Yes, it's quite expensive, it performs really well.

It is worth the extra money to buy the digital versus the dial.

I'm not sure the price is justifiable, but if it lasts for 20 years, then i think it was worth it.

Packaging/appearance

It came with no packing around the unit, just snug in the over box.

It came in a trash bag inside of a cardboard box, with a few pieces of broken styrofoam.

I have to second the people who said that it wasn't packaged very well.

Competitiveness

So even tho this machine is pretty awesome, it doesn't come cheap compared to the others.

I had been using the round 4-tray eastman outdoor which does the job but there is no comparison to this excalibur.

Quality control could be better, especially for a well known, loved and trusted brand like excalibur.

It is more expensive to make at home than it is to buy at the store, but the results are so much better it is worth it.
