Pros

Tb is really 9 tb (10 billion bytes either way) super easy to setup with the console, just plug and play.

Cons

The head seek mechanism thrashes and vibrates the desktop. I am scared to make another purchase because returns are environmentally hurtful.

This is a first time purchase of a fantom drive and i'm sorely disappointed. Not worth saving a few bucks.

Tons of i/o errors and dreaded semaphore timeouts. Lost almost 4 tbs of data. Get a tiny western digital or seagate. I can probably literally copy my system drive bit by bit copy to a new hard drive and completely circumvent the partition/format proce... Read More

Great product, works very well and i've had it for about 4 years now.

I am pleased with what i have seen so far.

If massive high speed data transfer isn't a necessity then usb2 works just fine.

In spite of some reviewers claiming spotty quality, my experience with these drives has been nothing short of perfect.

That said, my 8tb fantomdrive doesnt hum at all on any surface.

As it stands, it seems that even a trifold napkin underneath will make this drive quiet enough to use as long as its not too close to you.

This is my 3rd storage device from fantom (also own a 1tb and a 2tb).
