Pros & Cons
Pros
Jb01 appears to be the exact same model as the ds-1. It operates very well at the advertised rates and capacities. This one is big! It is designed well and works smoothly.
This shredder works amazingly well, but does not really like to shred over 6 pages at a time (sometimes less depending on the thickness of the paper) i have run through many file boxes of old paperwork & it just keeps on shredding. The comfort of ... Read More
This thing slices through paper like a hot knife through butter. Cross-cutting works pretty well.
Cons
Half the paper goes in upper compartment, once that compartment fills up the printer cracks jams and sounds like its going to explode. It says 11 sheets but it's more than 3 so what's really the point of a $100 shredder when a credit card app cannot g... Read More
The basket is very small and fills up very quickly, pulling it out to empty is extremely messy as the basked does not fit snuggly. The shredder is dusty particularly through the wire mesh basket. Does not collect 100% of its shred in the bin forcing y... Read More
Highlights
Quality
I am oiling it regularly, and am looking forward to many years of quality use.
Best shredder [amongst many] i have ever owned.
The first one lasted about 5 years until the blades jammed and quit rotating.
My history with shredders is extreme annoyance that i forget to empty the basket until it's ready to overflow, and then i cause... Read More
Price
The powershred ds-1 was worth every penny.
Can't ask for anything more for this price, has worked flawlessly for several years.
My daughter bought her shredder and paid $70.
I got mine from sam's club about 8 years ago for around $100.
Packaging/appearance
Shreds through credit cards, unopened envelopes with advertisements and thin catalogs or brochures.
Do beware of envelopes containing coins as that will probably brick the unit (happened to me).
Competitiveness
I have the jb01 and it appears to be the exact same model as the ds-1.
The only downside is it is expensive compared to a comparable desktop version.
After using several less expensive shredders the last few years i decided to purchase the fellowes powershred ds-1.
