The secret is to put a small dab on the tip of your finger then rub your finger and thumb together like youre coating your fingerthumb pads then roll the earpiece between your fingers

I tried 3 different size earbuds with my ipod and vaseline and watched vidoes on how to insert earbuds so that they would seal
