I am not sure if when they compress this mattress that is does something to the springs or what but feeling springs whilst trying to sleep is an actual nightmare.

If you have joint problems, a 3"+ memory foam topper should be sufficient to adjust the mattress more toward your comfort level.

Since im a sidesleeper who has chronic widespread joint pain ra this mattress isnt geared toward my needs

While it has memory foam in the construction it also has springs or something similar to springs so you get that traditional mattress bounce which i always found to be so supportive which i miss from the memory foam only mattress i have in my own bedroom

You have to very carefully cut away the outer plastic holding it in a roll
