If the leather you are using is a light color you will see it change to black very quickly this is metal being left behind

After stropping several times i remove metal residue by minimal application of mineral oil followed by light stroking with a paper towel followed by reapplication of the flexcut gold compound

The more i use it the more uniform the surface become though it was pretty rough at the beginning
