We went from a standard fish filter that simply would not keep the tank clean to using the fluval system.

This system worked the very best for our yellow belly turtle in a 50gal tank.
Love the u2 fluval filter for my turtle tank.
Definitely a need if you own a fluval u3 filter.
Without filter foam pads and a fluval underwater filter, it is difficult to be vigilant to get waste particles siphoned.

I remove the fishies immerse the u1 in the tank plug it in and then blast the substrate with a turkey baster that blows all kinds of nasty crud out of the substrate and suspends it in the water where the u1 can suck up the crud

Then i place it first in the filter basket of my aqua clear 50 followed by the regular thick foam pad then the carbon insert
