The foot beds are rubber and usable without shoes. It definitely builds strength. My partner is 200+ lb and found the tension very good.

Bought this to use while i watch my shows at night and it works perfectly and does its job.
The foot beds are rubber and usable without shoes.
The peddling is a little difficult, but once you find your rhythm it's awesome.
