While it works in visible light too i don’t think it can replace a pair of good binoculars

That said it can do something standard binoculars can’t record video and take “meh” photos but then again… most likely so can your phone

Using a twohanded grip to keep it at eyelevel is fat more tiring than keeping it at belly level—but then to keep it pointing straight ahead rather than tilted down one is forced to comfort one’s wrists

Ignoring that the classic twohanded binocular grip does provides stability—and it’s required to take advantage of the twohanded control scheme half the buttons are operated with one’s left fingertips and the rest with the right

That would be fine except that you need to use your left hand to focus—which means so it’s no longer really stabilizing the nvs40 and it’s no longer in position to operate the leftside controls

See all the buttons take some force to depress—including the one to take a photo—depresses the button and one inevitably makes the nvs40 shake—on a tripod or handheld
