You will defiantly have to calibrate the length setting especially if you use imperial measurements

If you do use imperial measurements and you do calibrate the length setting each and every time you turn the device offon you will have to select imperial measurements again you can save the settings youve set for calibration after you calibrated but you will always have to reload those settings each and every time you turn the device offon

If the cable your testing for length is less that about three feet the device will always come back with open not the actual length

However if you plug a remote sensor onto the other end it will return a length though it will likely be zero

If you watch the video they provide in the description on amazon for this be aware that the red device they show in the video is setup differently than the blue one here
