It's awesome taking air out of the jars
The problem is that after the vacuum stops, air is let in very slowly, which allows air to get back into the jar.
Docking a star because the rubber gasket seems to always come out when you pull the sealer off the jar.

It works even if all you own is the portable hand held foodsaver

As others have noted the regular jar sealer does not seal as well as the widemount sealer

To fix that rather than let the machines valve let air back in just unplug the vacuum port at the top of the jar sealer as soon as the vacuum cycle is over so that air rushes back in between the lid and sealer immediately

Some people said that they have had to use 2 lids to get it to seal

Make sure the cone you select has a hole that passes straight through it because some dont and you would have to drill out the hole
