The shaft relies on a simple washer to pull that aluminum block backwards. Simply creating two (wider) projections (like by drilling a hole in and inserting a pin perpendicularly behind the washer) could have stopped this entire issue from happening.

The one i received closes the toe block when you turn the handle clockwise and opens when turned counterclockwise
