The format of this book is jumbled with many points of view many ifs and maybes as if the writer in her focus to tell the tale didnt particularly care who the actual killer was

The swinging pendulum of bad characters that turn good and viceverso interspersed with lyrics for songs of the time in french and in english gives this book a sketchy rather than clear account of the murder

Perhaps the sketchy often jumbled plot was because of the authors attempt to be truly historical since the crime was never solved
