Pros
Most everyone (where it snows) needs roof deicing cables. No ice damns, no leaks. Most effective when you're diligent about it's use.
Cons
Realistically these cables are fragile and easy to damage. They are incapable of biting into hard asphalt shingles or holding on with spring force friction. Maybe they are counterfeit?

We would turn on when it started to snow and leave it on until the snow stopped and the shingles were visible

If you start by uncoiling that way it becomes a tangled mess

They recommend uncoiling from the end of the cable but the problem i had with that is that i didnt know exactly how much extra slack i would have and didnt want to run the risk of clipping up the whole roof and running out of cable to make it down the spout and to power
