When the filling was empty i washed the trap thoroughly and filled it with vinegar and a drop of washingup liquid

The vinegar has the same effect as the previous filling and the drop of rinsing agent lowers the surface tension of the vinegar so the flies cannot land on the surface of the liquid but sink in directly
