It has a better chance than a dishcloth or sponge doing those jobs. Wooden base makes it very sturdy and has a nice feeling in your hand.

Cons

The wide backed handle makes your hand slip when scrubbing. The bristles are stiff and concave so scrubbing flat pans or plates is not very effective. Oxo's bamboo bristle bristles curl and bend too easily.

The thinnest part of the handle is made of flimsy plastic. The handle is too large and chunky.
