Pros & Cons
Pros
Still a solid game. My 9 yo loves this as well as our teen son.
Good balance of strategy and chance. Still fun, nonetheless. A single game takes us about an hour (mind you theyre 7 and 10 and get distracted on occasion! A very fun game to play, it has a lot of replay value, because each game is going to be differe... Read More
Dragonrealm is next version of dragonwood and has better gameplay mechanic and is much more interesting to play. Great for all ages, but if you started with dragonrealm, you will still enjoy dragonwood. More strategy and complexity without being overl... Read More
There are dragon locations (instead of cards), and there is a location with a unicorn on it (to the great relief of my 5 yr old who lives for the unicorn card in dragonwood) in dragonrealm, you are dealt locations on the landscape instead of individua... Read More

It had a theme we already enjoyed and some of the mechanics of the gameplay was similar but there was more to it

If youre a beginner you could try starting with dragonwood but we didnt personally feel it was too difficult to learn especially with the included turn summary cards

Dragonrealm did take us a fair amount more time than dragonwood considerably more than indicated on the box although it was our first time playing which was a plus for us to have one option be for longer game nights and one be a quicker filler

I suspect that gamewright was looking to make a game that captured the success of dragonwood but with more dimensions to make for better repeated gameplay

I love dragonwood but i found that after a few plays even kids figure out the strategy and it comes down to luck in what cards you draw
