You have to remember to move it back to auto but that brings up the second design problem the icon on the display is so tiny and these are usually plugged into wall outlets 14 above the floor many times behind a chair or something to it nearly impossible to see if you did indeed move it back to auto

I had an old reliable intermatic digital timer that had a large onoff button and it would always stay in auto program mode but turning it on would bring it on early and likewise if you wanted to turn something off early that worked and the next day it went back to normal onoff mode
