Pros & Cons

Update Pros and Cons

Pros

Quality is good, and the ratcheting design is nice. Build quality is top-notch. Pricepoint much lower than its competitors.

The ratcheting die holder is a nice touch as well as offering two collet type tap holders - much better than the t handle type that always seems to loosen at the wrong time. The carrying case holds the dies in well and without rattling.

Cons

Many of the dies are mislabeled so there are duplicates and missing dies. Clearly, misrepresentation of what's included.

The internals of the ratchet are not of good quality. It often switches itself forwards and backwards or the ratcheting action locks up. I normally like gear wrench but this product is junk using junk chineese steel.

Of the 32 metric taps and dies have nonstandard pitches. None of the non-standard pitches follow the metric fine thread (mf) standard. The blow-molded case labels some of the metric dies as sae.

Out of the box junk machining with defective thread cutters. I refuse to use this on my stuff, as it would destroy any threads i tried to clean. It just spins freely now.

Quality

Seems well made with a good selection of tap and dies.

The tap and die numbers and sizes are super easy to read, which made the whole process smoother and more efficient.

25 die destroyed a stud full of paint that i was trying to chase.

Has most every tap or die you might want or needfor most common situations

Price

I think this is a bang for the buck, get a lot of taps and dies to get you started type arrangement

If the price can decrease a little that would be a five stars !

Nice set to have boy did it go up in price compared to last year.

Shipping

It took a while to be delivered, but worth the wait.

Competitiveness

It is much better than other sets out there that i've owned.

Really like this kit was a bit pricey compared to other brands but i have had good experience with gearwrench.

While this set was far more expensive than any other tap and die set i've purchased, the quality is vastly better -- and this g...  Read More
