Pros & Cons
Pros
The spool is one of the nicest i've seen in a while. It is a little large for our printer so we had to find a creative way to position the spool so that it would unwind cleanly. The filament flows nicely, and i've had no issues with bed or layer adhes... Read More
This is the first time i've printed with dual color filament. The colors are very nice and vibrant, which adds a nice touch to my prints. I was also pleased that they didn't randomly shift around causing streaks across the prints.
The price is more than fair for a multi-color silk. I'm quite fond of these multicolored silk pla filaments. This one is perhaps more opaque-metallic rather than translucent-silk.
Where the gold mixes with black, there is a distinct greenish hue. The filament is a dark brown almost chocolaty color and it has a definite texture to it.
Filament arrives on a reel, vacuum-sealed in a bag with a small silica gel desiccant. It's crucial to store the reel in this bag to prevent the pla from absorbing moisture from the air.
Cons
This geeetech ebony wood looks more like a matte black than anything wood-like. It's very brittle. Reel only has one set of holes for retaining the cable, as well.
Highlights
Quality
High quality print as well, no bubbling, etc.
Flows smoothly, no issues during the build.
Prints stuck to smooth and rough pei build plates as well as a g10 garolite build surface.
Bed adhesion and print quality were on par with any good brand of 3d printer filament.
Price
That being said, this seems like a really cool filament, especially for the price!
Overall, despite its slightly higher price point, i'm quite pleased with this filament.
It comes in a big spool for the price.
The value for this spool is very good.
Shipping
Unlike 50% of the filament i get from amazon, this arrived sealed and well evacuated.
Packaging/appearance
Packaging was cardboard box and geeetech included their usual plastic ziploc bag for storage, nice touch.
The geeetech gold/silver silk pla filament was packaged well.
Arrived neatly wound on a plastic spool.
Articulated dragon in the photo was printed on a neptune 4 and it came out so well that i printed several more.
Competitiveness
This is a really nice touch that most companies do not even bother doing.
I've used other extruded red, gold, black silk filaments, each brand has their own unique color gradients and you rotate the part.
My understanding is that geeetech and giantarm are the same company but different sub brands.
I used to use pretty much the same brand of filaments for everything but recently decided to branch out and try some other brands.

Normally with two colors it transitions back and forth and you see the change better with three it takes longer to cycle back through and it ends up looking like you just have black spots on the print

I started at 210 nozzle 60 heatbed and 60mms

The calidragon came out okay with some stringing and some messy printing on the overhangs

For the dragon the crocodile i kept everything the same but turned the nozzle temp down to 205 to cut back on the stringing

There are a few tricky things when working with this tricolor pla specifically when making a top bottom set of pieces
