Pros & Cons
Pros
It's really worth it for the added durability and scratch resistance. The finish on, say, hard maple with just a couple of coats is sublime.
Water-based finish means no vocs or odor.
Cons
Even with spraying, the sheen is very streaky. This is how i've had mediocre success with this spray 3 medium coats sanding with a grey brillow pad between. With this method, you get about 1 side of a 4x8 piece of plywood for every quart.
This stuff is impossible to lay with a foam brush or regular brush without getting tons of * marks. It has so much of the mattifying ingredient that it clumps and instantly starts drying.

Competitiveness
I recently refinished a 75 year old 5'x3' maple butcher block that i use as my computer desk.
i bought this for my hvlp setup to build and finish custom drums.
You can find many others at less than half the price.
I used a wagner hvlp spray gun and was able to spray two coats of shellac followed by two coats of polyurethane.

Since it is a stain we needed a top coat to go over it to make it last and durable

We have found to use it sparingly and put on several thin coats because if you put it on too thick in the first coat it dries white in those areas

I compared it to minwax top coat in satin finish as well and i didn’t like the later as much as it took longer to dry had a smell i didn’t like and the finish felt a bit tacky to me when it was dry
