The back of the knife is respectably thick and finished at 90 degrees important for scraping a fire steel but this knife even has a little notch for fire steels right there after the handle just before the serrated edge

Seems that since handmade knives made such an impact on the knife culture the slap handle sides on the slab is now the norm despite overmolding technology being available
