Pros & Cons

Pros

Small enough to carry in dress pant but a big enough blade to be useful. Small size is perfect to slip in my pocket. The only reason i've bought 5 is i keep losing or they get stolen.

The blade lock and thumb assist work fine. I still need to open things and cut fasteners (string, zip ties, tape) occasionally and scissors are not always handy. The lock is dependable both closed and open. The assisted opening mechanism is very crisp...  Read More

It's really light and easy to carry. Not as nice as the chive but half the cost. It's rugged (as i've dropped it numerous times) some folks think the handle material feels cheap, but it gives good grip and is very lightweight.

The only thing that i dislike about the knife is that the safety lever is a little clumsy. The safety button also releases the locked open blade for folding once you're done with cutting. Clip is fine.

The gerber mini fast draw is a perfect clip-on utility knife. The knife is very narrow (a little less that 1/2 when you factor the clip) and the spring assist is silky smooth. This knife is wider than the chive by about 1/8.

Cons

This one is either a knock off or gerber quality control people took the day off! I'm now convinced it's wiser to pony up the extra $25 or so and buy a high quality knife this next time, rather than another cheap chinese import. Have other gerber kniv...  Read More

Highlights

Quality

Nice small frame and still very sturdy.

The ergonomic handle fits comfortably in the hand, providing good grip even in wet conditions.

It feels cheap and flimsy, and is in a bad location.

The assisted open isn't strong enough to open the knife all the way, and at least on my unit, the lock never engages on its own.

Price

The gerber is a great knife for the money.

Overall it's a really nice knife at a really great price point.

To spare the suspense, if you can afford it, buy the chive.

Shipping

Note: i keep it in my pocket, and i use it for work (it stays dry and use is primarily for opening packages, and prepping shipments.

Packaging/appearance

It's the perfect small knife for boxes, rope, packages, etc.

I liked the look of it and "accidentally" opened it to see how it feels in my hand.

Competitiveness

I like the blade locking mechanism on this knife more than the chive.

The chive is the best in class as far as i can tell.

This knife is wider than the chive by about 1/8".

Many of you, like me, have probably compared this knife to the kershaw chive 1600.

You have to open the knife until the assist takes over then flick your wrist to get it to open the rest of the way not that big of a deal but if its not going to work right id rather just not have it
