Pros & Cons
Pros
Bought the pixel 7a unlocked google phone for my inlaws. The 7a is the smallest of the 7s which is perfect for me. As a phone, it works well - ymmv depending on your carrier.
Weight and bulk are noticable, and has a long way to go in comparison to it's competitors at similar msrp price points. Everything from navigating apps to streaming videos is buttery smooth. Speed makes up for what differences i disliked from my motor... Read More
The fingerprint reader is a bit inconsistent, but i've found that if i wet my finger and wipe it off the reader works every time. I prefer the physical fingerprint reader of previous models, but that's not a deal breaker. The screen is big enough to r... Read More
Can get two days of battery when at home on wifi. Eliminates the need for an alarm clock as you can shut the off the phone before bed and it will turn on and wake you at the alarm time in the morning. As for better drain that's dependent on use & ... Read More
Cons
The last glaring issue i've had with the phone is the delayed response from the screen. Sometimes the screen freezes up for 15 to 20 seconds. I have to keep tapping and about 10 seconds later it finally responds.
When the room is dark, the screen obnoxiously flashes bright white to try and read your fingerprint. The fingerprint sensor is awful.
Oled looks good, but the bright colors have a tendency to wash out text when i'm trying to read something in low light conditions. The camera on the ph-1 is terrible. The speakers are so they are clear and great for voice, but they are not loud and ha... Read More
Modern android has far too much google bloat. Switching to the pixel 7a has been a nightmare. Ui things just take up more space or are organized in a less efficient manner for no apparent reason other than it looks different, i guess. Charging via mic... Read More
The swipe zone is so narrow that i can't navigate web pages without accidentally swiping back. The screen unlock story is that the only way to create a consistent experience is to use the sequence of power button -> slide or hold unlock icon.
Highlights
Quality
The dedicated fingerprint sensor on previous pixels was consistent and made using the device fluid and natural.
I have been happy with the quality.
The in-screen sensor used on the 7a is basically unusable.
Important, with a screen protector on, it would not register my fingerprints after numerous attempts until i turned on the incr... Read More
Price
Great price to performance for the phone.
Had an older android and this was reasonably priced with good features
Overall, it's a good phone if you can get it at the sale price of less than 400$.
I'm honestly tired of paying out of the rear for overpriced phones that don't impress me all that much, just to be with the fad.
Shipping
Only complaint is shipping took awhile because my guess is amazon has to order from google.
Packaging/appearance
Arrived in new condition and decent value because most americans are idiots who rent their phones.
Competitiveness
I like it as good and perhaps even more as my past samsungs.
(huawei and other asian branded phones have this.
But the weight and bulk are noticable, and has a long way to go in comparison to it's competitors at similar msrp price points.
The pixel outperforms the huawei in terms of real-world processing speed, outside camera, and it comes with the the latest android o.
