The device is battery powered and comes complete with the required (1 x cr2477) battery already inserted. You need to remove the battery tab to start it working, which you can do without removing the battery cover.
Cons
Setup is tedious and requires opening your home wifi to chinese internet connections. Not necessary in my view, not for me.
