I doubt this is a unique problem to this car seat as they generally take up a lot of room

Its kind of a pain to put in but i learned from a video on youtube that if you get in the backseat and push down on the top of the seat as you pull the strap to tighten it after connecting it it is much tighter and more secure for rear facing

When i tried to put my knee in the seat and pull the strap the seat felt too loose
