The wind in the california desert is ferocious and a deep pipe in the ground is probably the only thing that will keep an open umbrella upright so i do have a safety cord to prevent a catastrophe in a sudden gust but in general this is perfect
They hold the umbrella securely working much better than the two other umbrella stands i bought for the same job works great so far came missing parts didnt have the metal screw to pin the umbrella inside the tube
