Pros & Cons
Pros
It's a fantastic item for working on small parts like guitar saddles and nuts, truing up leveling blocks, etc. It's not a machinist quality when you're chasing microns in precision but for a woodworker to have a reference surface this is more than one... Read More
The red granites (pink, actually) tend to have higher quartz content and therefore harder surfaces. The weight is also incredibly helpful in stabilizing my bench. Very heavy, solid to straighten edges.
This granite slab is perfect for flattening plane irons and sharpening chisels. A couple drops of water and capillary action holds the black silicon carbide sandpaper in place while sharpening. I've used it to flatten my ceramic sharpening stones.
This is a solid grade b plate and is priced accordingly. But it appears that there are those who have gotten some lemons. This is my first and appears to be the last surface plate i will be needing, unless i some how break this one.

Price
Perfect price for a perfect surface plate
Fantastic price for such a piece, especially considering the shipping cost.
00005 (one half of one ten thousands of an inch), and that is not available anywhere for $109.
It's a surface plate at a good price and is supposedly flat.
Shipping
I'm very happy and it shipped in a wooden crate.
They came in a very short time and are exactly as described.
Most of them say it was shipped in a wood box that could be used for storage if it wasn't busted in shipping.
First plate delivered was broken in shipment but a replacement was quickly provided.
Packaging/appearance
Comes packaged very well in a small wooden crate.
I love how it came in a wooden box for protection.
It came in a wooden box inside of a regular box and had a questionable "flatness report" in a sealed bag.
Crated in a 3/8" plywood box then in a cardboard box.

0015 is better than most humans are capable achieving in application without high precision, high cost tools to match.
I passed on the far more expensive starrett plate and that was an easy choice for me.
