Pros
It's terry pratchett so it's hilarious. An amusing tale full of creatively amusing paroxysms and descriptive hilarities.
The book is not only funny but trenchant and poignant at the same time. The story is goofy and fun.
When a shadowy group summons a dragon, things quickly get out of hand. Carrot is so honest, his goodness is strangely contagious. This is the one that first introduces the night watch.
The book is incredibly quotable, with snippets that blow your mind and make it go wire on meditation. His unique voice, wonderful world-building, and being able to write humorously about situations that are unjust are balm to my soul.
Guards guards is set in the dystopian world of ankh-morpork. Sibyl ramekin is the main character.
Cons

Gritty honour although through sheer competence and control its not clear whether pratchett thinks the patrician is a monster necessary monster or ultimately good
