The plastic base is no issue at all and we prefer it since it makes the unit lighter. Just put the removable waffle grids in the dish washer as they are dish washers safe.

Cons
It takes 8 minutes on the highest setting to cook one waffle. This unit has only 800 watts, whereas quicker cooking models range from 1100 watts to 1500 watts. Without removable plates it is also hard to clean.

Easy to useeasy to clean since the grill can be removedhowever i find that the heat is not well spreadsome parts get more toast than other areaone side is also more toasted than the otheri had to flip the waffle itself so that it turns out nicely

The plates require very little greasing lightly brush when temperature has been reached and did not grease again cooking 7 waffles
