Pros & Cons
Pros
The mugen makes freshly-ground decaf beans taste as good as some coffee makers output of caffeinated coffee. Works really well with a floral light roast and fine with some ethiopian beans that turned out to be dark-roasted. Not a huge deal, just somet... Read More
Cons
The plastic base is garbage. In the future, i’d prefer a ceramic base even if that means the cone part can’t snap into it snugly.
Highlights
Quality
This is one of the best purchases i’ve made.
Material and build quality are top notchthis one is compatible with v60 #2 filters
A fall of 3+ feet broke it in two after a month of use.
I had a beloved aeropress that was left at work while we were telecommuting for a year and a half, and when i tried to use it a... Read More
Price
Great value and good choice for someone just starting out with pour over specially coffee.
At this price, don't take my word for it, try it.
If you have never tried pour over coffee, this is a very inexpensive way to start and get good coffee too.
Packaging/appearance
Bought it mostly for ease of packing it in the suite case for travel…and it did not disappoint.
Competitiveness
Easily competes against my classic v60, aeropress hario switch, melita, and timemore b75.
Tetsu designed the dripper with hario and was the world brewers cup 2016 champion that invented the 4:6 recipe for the v60.
I enjoy the lower bypass the mugen offers as a brewer as compared to the v60.
I would recommend you look at the april coffee recipe for this brewer as it has a lower tds than tetsu kasuya's original recipe.
