Pros & Cons
Pros
Hatchbox pla is great quality that hides imperfections and is sellable. Zero issues so far. Last thing you want is to deal with * filament.
The color is a brilliant bronze and gave the desired finish when making chess pieces. The only disappointment that i had is that the color is considerably lighter and less of a deep blue.
Cons
Print fail in the middle of a modestly large 24 hour print. When the spool looks like this it gets tangled and knots and ruins my print and machine as my machine doesn't know if it knots to turn off.
It is unbelievably frustrating. This is the sort of thing that works or doesn't, and is no unpredictable. Most importantly is that this makes the filament unreliable.
The spools are not reusable. The smoothness of the model prior to failure was adequate. This is worse than filament properties that can be fine tuned with settings.
Highlights
Quality
With machine calibrated and leveled, first layer adheres really well, and it extrudes consistently and smoothly.
Perfect for my projects, it consistently produces smooth prints with rich black color.
I'm building a large format printer and one of the design specifications is printing on an unheated bed.
The spool was wound tight and straight, no visible kinks or tangles.

Worth the slightly more expensive price to get quality that is great, hides imperfections, and is sellable.
Bottom line for me, good stuff but not worth the price.
It’s a little more expensive but i know it will work and to me that’s worth the cost difference.
Packaging/appearance
My hatchbox midnight purple filament was packaged well and arrived in great condition, the spool was vacuum sealed in plastic a... Read More
I really liked the color while selecting this and was glad to see that it was represented accurately when it arrived.
Once they did put my order in a box with the wrong color label which was frustrating until i realized it was just the box that was wrong
Competitiveness
I haven't had this issue with any of the other brands i've tried (at least 5 by now at varying price points).
But i can't justify spending $5-$10 more per spool than all the competition out there.
However, i couldn't ever get the same quality as what i was getting from hatchbox, so i'm back.
