Pros
This hayward chlorine generator makes pool maintenance a breeze. Saves needing a separate timer. Measure the salt concentration with a digital display.
Cons
Don't ever unplug unit to clean if there is any moisture in the air or recent precipitation. Flow sensor monitors the water flow and provides a fail-safe shutoff of the chlorine generator cell.
Hayward customer service is almost non-existent. Contacted hayward twice with no luck. Exactly zero help from hayward, even after multiple calls.
Timer was busted straight out of the box. Died first season after a few months of use. By then the warrenty period expires. This is after less than 6-7 months of actual use as we have our pool open a little more than 4 months.

Even with that for the item price and product quality highly recommend.
I finally converted to salt because i got fed up with the chlorine issues.
Competitiveness
This product replaces an old intex chlorinating unit.
My experience with hayward products over the last 26 years with my above ground pool has been great.

Although i dont believe it is the salt system itself as i live in south florida where it is constantly sunny and i have almost no shade over my pool ya know so leaves dont fall it in

The screws and holes for the front of the system are off so the timer does spin correctly
