Pros & Cons
Pros
The open back design allows the user to hear ambient noises-barking dogs, ringing phones etc. The sound is incredibly spacious (not surprising, first open back headphones i’ve ever used) the design is very premium looking, and i like the color pattern... Read More
Sennheiser hd 599 se's are very lightweight and extremely comfortable. I can keep them on for half an hour without any discomfort. My only real complaint is that the cord is too short, and i'd prefer a braided cord.
These headphones are, in a word, amazing. They sound real good for vj headphones and especial if using a microphone because they sound like they are sloped up in the midrange about 2. Midrange. These are my first headphones for listening to lossless m... Read More
The pads are very comfortable and look like the kind of material used in car seats further giving that luxery look. The pads never get irritating after hours of use, nor does the ears get sweaty from the inside, which most plastic foam materials cause... Read More
They are super durable. Movies are awesome, too. But for $150, these are gorgeous.
Cons
The left earphone blew out within a few months. The foam on the headphones is not nearly as comfortable as i had hoped it would be. Also they are cheaply made, the plastic they use is not very nice. These aren't worth the few extra dollars if you are ... Read More
Highlights
Quality
Great sound quality and balanced tone, moderately wide soundstage.
The chords are super easy to switch out and the headphones are really sturdy.
I need to use an adapter to get them to work on my pc, and the adapter just quit after 3 years and i had to go back to my noise... Read More
These are indeed open ear, and offer zero isolation.
Price
Best bang for the buck i've ever had.
The hd599 are definitely worth the present price of $129.
I caught them below $90 and pulled the trigger.
This particular model is perpetually on sale.
Packaging/appearance
-- the box is nice and the custom cushion inside to protect the product is a nice touch so its not bouncing around during delivery.
Competitiveness
I'm very happy with both and sennheiser is a brand i will stick with in the future.
They are easily comparable to my old setup at less than half the cost with no amplifier needed and 100x more comfortable.
After a couple of weeks of comparing, the hd660s won out and the hd599 went back.
If i were to rate this headset against other headsets of higher prices then it would get a 4 star, the sound quality would be t... Read More

They are not going to put out planar quality sound no matter how much you eq but for dynamic drivers they sound good

If i paid 200 then i would definitely be a lot more critical because for 350 you can get planars that are on another level than these and most dynamic driver headphones
