This is a great headphone for $109.
Incredible deal for the single benjamin they cost!
Bought this $109 hifiman planar with the focal elegia on sale last xmas for $359.
So at this price get the he400se.
Packaging/appearance
Just added the fiio ka15 dongle dac and suddenly they're fantastic!
These were a christmas gift and they loved the sound
I added a small dac/amp and haven't looked back!
Competitiveness
Testing some general music, i felt that these he400se were surprisingly similar to the hd6xx.
I use these with a topping dac off of my computer and the sound is terrific, much better than my old grado's.
I prefer them over several much more expensive counterparts.
Gaming wise, they were similar, with the he400se with a slightly wider soundstage.

Just know that an open back headphone will leak a ton of noise

Then i found that they are sensitive enough to be driven by macbook pro directly so now i use them with my notebook computer
