Pros & Cons
Pros
The blade is handworked, and is definitely differentially hardened, like a katana blade. This makes it easy to sharpen, and surgically sharp. Blade isn't razor sharp but if desired you could get it that way in 2 mins of sharpening.
Excellent for the price and a great collectable. Over all the craftsmanship is good. It all adds up pretty good.
Beautiful piece of traditional japanese cutlery. Also known as a japanese carpenters knife. Chefs loves knives and this has the famous japanese blue steel as it's core.
Both look vintage, like your grandfather gave it to you when you were a kid. They are all unique and give it a handmade look.
The knife oozes character and originality. This is a hand forged knife in a style that began around the 1890's in japan.
Cons
The blade has elongated pits towards the front of the blade that were not polished. The bevel on each side is so uneven the beveles do not match up at the top of the knife.
Highlights
Quality
Solidly well built, and very very very sharp.
I have all three xl- l- sm very good quality.
The steel is real carbon aogami which means it'll rust if not cared for but it also means it sharpens easily and gets crazy sharp.
Shaved my arm and sliced my finger shortly after opening, then used it for a few weeks and gave it the paper test.
Price
Highly recommend the price was worth it for a blade with some soul
Excellent for the price and a great collectable.
You're spending $25 on a knife from japan.
You simply cannot buy a decent quality hand forged blade anywhere near this price from anyone else.
Shipping
Came in a day early, and razor sharp.
Packaging/appearance
" it came fully sharp and in a nice box.
Comes in a yellow cardboard box clearly stamped new.
The former higo came in a green plastic sheath; this one came in the gold and blue box.
I got it with the original blue and gold box
Competitiveness
My evaluation is by comparing it with otherjapanese knife in the same categorize.
Apart from these are the more expensive higonokamis and will have collector value, i don't see much difference in the cheaper version.
